MY FIRST FILM

The Fundraising Begins

Tuesday, 1 May 2007

I had the first lot of donations last week. I asked my work colleagues to donate. Even though a lot of them don’t like horror films, they do want to help me. They know about my other life as a filmmaker and are very supportive of that. They want to see me get out of that dead end job and make something of myself.

These are the first lot of donations, as I call them. Really people are pre-ordering the DVD of the film. I ask people to donate £20 (the average price for a newly released film on DVD). For their money they get a copy of the film, their name on the credits and their name put into a draw for premiere tickets.

I got this idea for pre-selling the DVDs from a film called “Cradle of Fear”. It starred Dani Filth, the lead singer of the band Cradle of Filth. They pre-sold the DVDs to fans of the band. They raised the funds for the film by doing this, and I thought it was a very good idea. Of course I don’t have a lead singer of a band as the star, but the idea is still sound. There are people, everyday people, out there who want to

be involved in making films. I hope to find these people.

There are other ways of fundraising. Similar ideas. Paying a dollar to get a producer’s credit. Paying to be an extra on a film. Takings from the door of public screenings or parties. Making a trailer and trying to sell it to a studio. I asked myself, would I want to invest in one of these projects and the answer was no. I felt that £20 was a reasonable amount for people to donate. It wouldn’t break the bank and that people would receive something at the end. Something to hold in their hands. To say that I helped make this.

I will be putting a link up on the website soon, where you too can donate towards the film.

PS. The photo is from when I went bowling with friends last week. I won, which is unusual, as I’m terrible at games.
