MY FIRST FILM

The Day After

Monday, 14 July 2008

I got up late this morning. I say late, it was actually 8.30am. But I wanted to get the car packed and the set tidied before leaving to take Lee’s equipment back to him. I decided that there was no point in rushing. I could drive down to Sutton and come back to set. Have something to eat, there was food still left over from the shoot, and then take my time with my other tasks. I had a shower and breakfast, before hitting the road.

I left for Lee’s at 9.30am and went straight down the A12. The roads were clear, as I had just missed the rush hour, and the sun was shining, so I cruised down to Sutton. Never speeding. The journey to Lee’s was quick and painless this time. No more traffic jams on the M25 and no more getting lost around Sutton. I got to Lee’s before 11am. I rang his bell and there was no answer. At first I thought he was out, but actually he had just gotten up. I suspect I had woken him up by his demeanour. He let me in and then Lee inspected all the cases, making sure that it was all there. It was. Once that was done, Lee ushered me out. He had to get ready for another client and I had to get back to the set.

The sun was still shining as I drove back to the set. I got back after 12 noon and got to work on cleaning up the set and taking all my equipment down to the car. First thing I did was clean up the kitchen and put the washing in to soak. Then I gathered all my equipment and double checked that I had everything. Once I had done that, I took it all down to car bit-by-bit. It took me about 10 trips to get all in the back of the car. Again, I took it a bit at a time. There were a few doors to open and close between the set and the car. I only carried enough so I could have one hand free. It’s slow, but painless. I came away with no injuries and my back intact.

Then when the car was loaded. I had some lunch, finishing the food left over from the shoot. I then finished tidying the set. I then checked to make sure everything was turned off and then I locked the door and left. I drove home on the North Circular. I had hit the school run, so the journey back was long. It never came to a standstill, but it was slow going. Finally reaching home, I parked the car up and went in for a drink. I was bushed. All the driving today had sapped my energies. The unloading could wait.

I unloaded the car about an hour later, when my nephew got home from school. He gave me a hand carrying the light bags and cases into the house. With his help, it didn’t take long to do. I then laid down on my bed, tired. I wanted some rest, before having to go to work tonight. My week holiday from work was finished and later tonight I have to go back. I could do without the day job sometimes.

Anyway, tomorrow I will catch up on my emails. I see there is over a hundred waiting for me. Looks like crap to me. More Nigeria Princes wanting to give me their fortunes. I seem to delete more emails, than I read. Also, I got to return the clothes we didn’t use in the shoot. I have to head back to Oxford Street. That should be fun.
