MY FIRST FILM
MY FIRST FILM
I Am Going To Write A Novel
Friday, 30 October 2009
I haven’t updated the site for a while, as there hasn't been anything to update you about. October has been a quiet month for me. I have been sending out copies to distributors and stuff, but so far I have no luck. I have been spending my time going to the cinema a lot this month. I went to see Zombieland, Up (I saw it in 3D, which I felt didn't add anything to the film), Pontypool, and I finally got to see the second part of Mesrine. I have to say October has been a good month for cinema. I still want to catch The Imaginaurium of Doctor Parnassus, as I do like Terry Gilliam films.
Next month I plan to continue to sending out the film, but as it is quiet I am also going to write a novel. I am going to take part in National Writing Month, also known as NANOWRIMO. The goal is to write 50,000 words in a month. It can be about anything you want as long as it is fiction. There isn't a prize for finishing, just the knowledge that you completed a novel. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just needs to meet the 50,000 word count. For more information you can go to their website - http://www.nanowrimo.org.
It appealed to me, because I have been reading a lot of novels this year. Currently I am reading all seven books in Stephen King's The Dark Tower series (I found the whole lot in a charity shop). I am really enjoying them and I reading through them quickly. As I have been reading, I thought I would like to try to write my own novel. This competition is just the kick up the ass I need.
My plan is to write 2000 words a day, five days a week, so I can have a break at the weekend. My novel is based on a script idea I had earlier this year. It's about a man who's girlfriend is dying and is given a chance by a stranger to save her. I have a rough idea of what I want to do. I know how it starts and where I want it to end, but the rest of it I don't know. I am looking forward to exploring the story and finding my way to the end.
I have to thank you to Rob Wickings for letting me know about NANOWRIMO. Rob wrote a novel called, "Satan's Schoolgirls" for it previously and he is going to write another one this year called "Pirates On The Moon". He is going to be putting up each day's writing on his blog - http://www.excusesandhalftruths.com. I will be looking forward to reading what my fellow NANOWREMO has written.
I too will be covering my progress on this site. I won't be putting my writings up each day, as I would like to go back and edit my writings. As soon as I finished and polished it, I will put it up on the site for you to you read. And if anything happens with the film, I will also write about that. So from the 1st November the site is going to be known as "My First Novel".
